HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al -Thani met here, at noon today with HE the Prime Minister of the friendly United Kingdom, Theresa May, on the sidelines of the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The State of Qatar underlined that the ongoing policies of the Israeli occupation, which have caused high unemployment among the Palestinian youth and the loss of security and the necessities of a decent life, especially in the Gaza Strip, complicate the possibility of reaching a solution to the Palestinian issue and highly escalate the situation.

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani gave the following speech during the opening session of the 72nd United Nations General Assembly:

HE Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani described Qatar's proactive policy in the fight against extremism and terrorism as a constructive option that addresses the social roots of this abhorrent phenomenon. Addressing the first ministerial meeting of the follow-up mechanism of the International Conference on economy and investment (TUNISIA 2020) in New York today, His excellency stressed that the fight against terrorism should not be confined to the security dimension, but should focus on addressing economic and social causes that lead to despair and extremism.

The State of Qatar reiterated its support to all efforts aimed at reaching a political solution in the Syrian conflict based on the terms of Geneva 1 communique and the relevant Security Council resolutions. HE Ambassador Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, the State of Qatar's permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, made the remarks during the interactive dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic, taking place during the 36th session of the Human Rights Council.

The State of Qatar called for supporting the efforts of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the early application of the Agency's comprehensive safeguards agreements (CSAs) to all nuclear activities in the Middle East as a fundamental step towards the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone.

Qatar's Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani has underlined that the holding of the U.S.-Islamic World Forum at this time is particularly important because of the intensification of conflicts and political and ideological divisions that have led to instability in many regions of the world.
