• Diplomatic relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Indonesia were established in 1976
• The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Jakarta was opened in 1996
• The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Doha was opened in 1999

Official visits of leaders and delegations of the two countries

The Qatari side

• On 27/03/1995, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem Bin Jabor Al-Thani, visited Indonesia.
• The Qatari side participated in the Sixth Conference of Ministers of Awqaf, which was held in Jakarta during the period from 29 October 1997 to 12 November 1997.
• The State of Qatar participated in the Conference of the Group of 77 of the United Nations on economic cooperation, which was held on the island of Bali during the period 4-5 December 1998.
• The State of Qatar participated with a delegation headed by His Excellency Yousef Hussain Kamal, Minister of Finance, at the Conference of Supporting Investment in Indonesia during the period 3-4 May 2000.
• His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani sent a message to the Indonesian President, Abdurrahman Wahid, regarding the participation of Qatar in the Ministerial Meeting, to support investment in Indonesia, held in Jakarta during the period 3-4 May 2000.
• In May 2000, a delegation from the Qatar National Committee visited Indonesia to obtain Indonesia's support for the organization of the 2006 Asian Games in Qatar.
• On the basis of the meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and the Ambassadors of the Arab States as well as Iran and Turkey, dated 7 June 2000, on the position of the Government of his country rejecting the Declaration issued by the West Papua Region Conference on the secession of the Territory from Indonesia, the Ministry directed the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar in New York to vote for Indonesia in the event that any draft resolution aimed at the unity and territorial integrity of Indonesia was introduced.
• On July 01, 2000. His Excellency Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the Ministerial Meeting held on the island of Bali to complement the Ministerial Meeting on Investment Promotion in Indonesia.
• The State of Qatar, represented by His Excellency the Permanent Representative in the United Nations, Nasser Abdul Aziz Al-Nasr, participated in the fourth preparatory meeting of the World Summit on Development held on the island of Bali in June 2002.
• During the period 18-19 May 2009, His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani visited Indonesia.
• During the period 8-9 December 2011, His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabr Al-Thani, Prime Minister and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited Indonesia.
• His Excellency Mr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Cabinet Affairs, heading the Qatari delegation, participated in the Global Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations held on the island of Bali on 29-30 August 2014.
• A delegation headed by Major General Dr. Abdullah Al-Mal participated in preparation and hosting of the 13th United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and Criminal Justice in Doha 2015, Jakarta 26-26 October 2014.
• A delegation headed by His Excellency Sheikh Fahd bin Faisal Al Thani, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, participated in a meeting of the Central Banks and Governors of the Monetary Authorities of the OIC Member Countries held in Surabaya during the period 5-6/11/2014.
• A delegation from the General Command of the Qatari Armed Forces participated in the Endo Defense Forum and Exhibition - Jakarta International Fair - held in Jakarta during the period 5-8/11/2014.
• A delegation from the Civil Aviation Authority participated in the International Civil Aviation Negotiation Conference ICAN 2014 held on the island of Bali during the period 21-21/11/2014.
• On Wednesday 10/12/2014, Mr. Ali Ahmed Al Kuwari, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar National Bank, met with His Excellency Mohamed Jusuf Kalla, Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.
• His Excellency Mr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Cabinet Affairs, visited Indonesia, heading a delegation from the State of Qatar to the Asia-Africa Summit in Jakarta during the period 21-24 April 2015.
• His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, participated in the Second Conference of Ministers of Labor of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) during the period 29-30/10/2015.
• A delegation from the Civil Aviation Authority headed by His Excellency Abdullah bin Nasser Turki Al-Subaie, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority, and his accompanying delegation participated in the air transport discussions between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Indonesia during the period 3-4/05/2016 in Jakarta.
• A joint delegation from the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior visited the Republic of Indonesia to discuss the common issues of the two countries with the officials of the Ministry of Manpower of Indonesia during the period 15-16/05/2016.
• A Qatari delegation headed by His Excellency Mr. Khalaf Ahmad Al Mannai, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, participated in the 41st annual meeting of the Islamic Development Bank Group during the period 17-19/05/2016 in Jakarta.
• His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed Bin Jassem Al Thani, Minister of Economy and Trade, in his capacity as the representative of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, and the Chairman of the Qatari delegation, participated in the World Islamic Economic Forum in Jakarta during the period 2-4/08/2016, and held a meeting with His Excellency President Joko Widodo.

The Indonesian side

• His Excellency Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia, visited the State of Qatar during the period 14-15 September 2015.
• His Excellency Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the former President of the Republic of Indonesia, visited the State of Qatar during the period from 30 April 2006 to 1 May 2006.
• In November 1999, His Excellency Abdulrahman Wahid, the former President of the Republic of Indonesia, visited the State of Qatar. Furthermore, His Excellency visited the State of Qatar, during the period 11-14 November 2000, to participate in the OIC Summit.
• In 2008, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Hidayat Noor Wahid, the President of the Shura Council, visited the State of Qatar.
• On 27/3/1997, His Excellency Ali Alatas, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, visited Doha. Furthermore, he visited Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia who preceded him: His Excellency Dr. Alwi Abdul Rahman Shihab (during the term of office of the President Abdulrahman Wahid), His Excellency Mr. Nur Hassan Wirajuda (during the term of office of the President Megawati Soekarno Putri and the first term of office of the President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono) and His Excellency Dr. Marty Natalegawa (during the term of office of the President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono). Dr. Alwi Shihab has also visited the State of Qatar several times, in his capacity as Special Envoy of His Excellency the former and current President Joko Widodo.
• On 4/5/2015, His Excellency Mr. Andrinof Chaniago, Minister of National Development and Planning and Head of the National Development Agency of the Republic of Indonesia, visited Doha.
• Her Excellency Mrs. Retno L.P. Marsudi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, visited Doha in the period 27-28 May 2015. The State of Qatar has provided USD 50 million as a financial assistance to help Indonesia address the issue of Rohingya migrants in Aceh and Northern Sumatra.
• In October 2015, His Excellency Mr. Sudirman Said, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, visited Doha.
• On 25 May 2016, His Excellency Mr. Muhamad Hanif Dhakiri, Minister of Manpower, visited Doha and met with the Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs.
• On 01/03/2017, His Excellency Dr. Abdul Kharis Almasyhari, Chairman of the First Committee of the House of Representatives visited doha.
• An Indonesian parliamentary delegation headed by Mr. Agus Hermanto visited Doha during the period 19-12 March 2017.

• Joint Minutes between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and the Republic of Indonesia on the Development of bilateral relations - Doha, 27/03/1997.
• Agreement between the Government of the State of Qatar and the Republic of Indonesia on the Encouraging and Protection of Mutual Investments - Doha, 18/04/2000.
• Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia - Doha, 21/04/2002.
• News Cooperation Agreement between the Qatari News Agency (QNA) and the Indonesian News Agency (ANTARA) - Jakarta, 30/09/2002.
• Convention on the Avoidance of Double Taxation and Prevention of Financial Evasion with Regard to Income Tax - Doha, 30/04/2006 – became effective in 19/09/2007.
• Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the State of Qatar and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia on the Establishment of a Mutual Fund or Investment Company.
• Agreement on economic and technical cooperation.
• Agreement regulating the use of the Indonesian workforce in the State of Qatar.
• A bilateral agreement on the cancellation of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, service and private passports between the two countries.
• Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Qatar Investment Authority on Investment.
