The State of Qatar informed the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General of the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) decision in favor of Qatar to take provisional measures against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the case related to discrimination against Qatari citizens.

This came in a message from Qatars Permanent Representative to the United Nations, HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani to HE the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and HE Security Council President for this month Olof Skoog. HE the ambassador referenced the State of Qatar's previous messages that highlighted the implications of the blockade and the illegal and discriminatory measures taken against The State of Qatar since June 5 of 2017.

The message also highlighted that the ICJ issued a binding ruling to accept Qatar's request of taking provisional measures against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after the latter took discriminatory measures against Qatari citizens in violation of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD).

The court indicated that "the UAE must ensure that (i) families that include a Qatari, separated by the measures adopted by the UAE on 5 June 2017, are reunited; (ii) Qatari students affected by the measures adopted by the UAE on 5 June 2017 are given the opportunity to complete their education in the UAE or to obtain their educational records if they wish to continue their studies elsewhere; and (iii) Qataris affected by the measures adopted by the UAE on 5 June 2017 are allowed access to tribunals and other judicial organs of the UAE."

The message highlighted that the decision of the ICJ can be considered a recognition by the most prominent international judicial body of Qatar's strong legal case in the crisis fabricated against it, and a vindication of the Qatari citizens affected by the discriminatory and illegal measures enforced against them by the unjust blockade that is looking to achieve goals which violate international law and is based on lies. The message also stressed that the court's decision confirms the effectiveness of the State of Qatar in dealing with the crisis and its impact on regional peace and security, as well as its humanitarian impact in light of the international law, the bilateral agreements, and international mechanisms for resolving crises.

The message added that the court's decision is the first in a series of legal measures the State of Qatar will take to the ICJ against the violations resulting from the unilateral, coercive, and illegal measures taken against its people.

The message also maintained that while the government of the State of Qatar reiterated its commitment to avoiding escalation and to find a solution to the GCC crisis through non-conditional dialogue, it will not hesitate to protect the interests of its people and residents. The message also stressed that the government of the State of Qatar will continue to defend those measures through the legal measures followed internationally.
